Kyle Singler
SOYCL Team: South Medford Generals
Accomplishments:
Kyle played for the South Medford AAU program as well as several traveling AAU teams. He then became a four-year letterwinner at South Medford High School, leading the Panthers to an impressive 110-10 record. During his senior season, he averaged 29.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, culminating in a State Championship victory over Kevin Love and Lake Oswego in 2007.
Kyle continued his career at Duke University, where he had a historic four-year run. In the 2009-2010 season, he led Duke to its 4th NCAA Championship. Selected 33rd overall in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons, he initially chose to play in Spain before joining the Pistons. He later played for the OKC Thunder and had several additional stints in Spain. See full bio here.
Garrett Fiddler
SOYCL Team: South Medford Generals
Accomplishments: Garrett played AAU basketball for South Medford alongside Kyle Singler and Michael Harthun (what a team!). He then attended St. Mary’s High School, where he led the Crusaders to consecutive third-place finishes in the 3A State Tournament as a freshman and sophomore in 2004 and 2005. During his sophomore season, he averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 blocks per game. After moving to Colorado Springs, Garrett led Doherty High School to the state playoffs in his junior year. As a senior, he led the state in blocks, averaging 6 per game. Garrett received a scholarship to play at Yale University.
Clinton Chapman
SOYCL Team: South Medford Generals
Accomplishments: Clinton transferred to Canby High School from South Medford, where he became a three-year starter. As a senior, he averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game, earning second-team All-State honors and being named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Year. Ranked as the No. 69 prospect nationally by Rivals.com, he went on to play for the University of Texas. Following his college career, Clinton has played professionally around the world in Switzerland, Turkey, Japan, Italy, and Germany.
Jordan Ellis
SOYCL Team: North Medford Storm
Accomplishments: Jordan played high school basketball at North Medford, where he was a three-year letter winner and a three-time first-team all-conference selection. He is also North Medford's all-time leading scorer. In addition to basketball, Jordan lettered in football and track during high school. He went on to play at Portland State before eventually joining Coach Dave Rose at BYU.
Michael Harthun
SOYCL Team: South Medford Generals
Accomplishments: Michael began his basketball career at South Medford in the AAU program alongside teammate Kyle Singler, with whom he continued to play throughout high school. Over an impressive four-year high school career, he averaged up to 21 points and six assists per game as a senior, earning honors such as first-team All-Conference and All-State selections. He led his team to a state championship as a junior and set the school record for career assists with 602. With 1,949 points, he became the second-highest scorer in school history. Michael went on to play two seasons at Washington State before transferring to Portland State.
EJ Singler
SOYCL Team: South Medford Generals
Accomplishments: EJ was instrumental in the 2006-07 state title run, playing alongside his brother Kyle and cousin Mitch. In 2009, he was named the OSAA 6A State Player of the Year, averaging 21.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. He also earned the titles of Gatorade Oregon Boys Basketball Player of the Year and Southwest Conference Player of the Year. EJ went on to play at the University of Oregon, where he became only the eighth player in school history to surpass 1,500 points and 500 rebounds, ranking 11th in career points (1,546) and sixth in free throw percentage (.848). He set the school record for games played (142) and finished as the winningest player in Oregon history with 89 career wins.
Danny Berger
SOYCL Team: North Medford Storm
Accomplishments: As a senior at North Medford High School, Danny earned first-team all-league and honorable mention all-state honors, setting single-season school records for points (459) and three-pointers made (53). He averaged 17 points, 3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Danny then played Attended Utah State University. He earned first-team all-league and honorable mention all-state honors as a senior at North Medford High School. As a senior he set the single-season school record for points scored (459) and three-pointers made (53). Danny would go to play at Chemeketa Community College for a season before transferring to Utah State to finish his an amazing college career.
Alex Young
SOYCL Team: Phoenix Bucs
Accomplishments: Alex played for Phoenix High School, earning first-team all-state honors during his junior and senior years. He was named the Oregon 4A Player of the Year in the 2010-11 season, leading Phoenix to its first state championship in 60 years. In his senior season, he averaged an impressive 22 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game, with a high of 38 points in a win over Eagle Point. A four-time member of the All-Skyline Conference first team, Alex was also recognized as the Skyline Conference Player of the Year in both his junior and senior years.
He then went on to have an outstanding career at UC Irvine, earning All-Big West Conference Honorable Mention honors in 2014 and 2015. He was named co-Freshman of the Year in 2013 after setting a school record with 144 assists in a single season. He ranks third in UCI history with 414 career assists.
Nate Bittle
SOYCL Team: Crater Comets
Accomplishments:
Nate starred at Crater High School, quickly establishing himself as one of the top players in the state. As a sophomore, he averaged 21.3 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks per game, setting a state tournament record with 10 blocks in a single game against Pendleton. In his junior year, he raised his game, posting 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks per game, leading Crater to the 5A state semifinals and earning the title of 5A Player of the Year.
For his senior season, Nate transferred to Prolific Prep in Napa, California, where he excelled under head coach Mark Phelps, his former travel AAU coach. Graduating as a five-star recruit, he received offers from top programs, including Oregon, Gonzaga, and UCLA. His national recognition includes selections to the McDonald's All-American Game, Jordan Brand Classic, and Nike Hoop Summit, marking him as one of the most highly regarded recruits in recent Oregon history. Now, Nate plays for Coach Dana Altman at the University of Oregon, where he continues to build on his reputation as an elite talent.
Austin Maurer
SOYCL Team: South Medford
Accomplishments:
Austin was named Oregon's 2023-24 Gatorade Player of the Year and is a two-time Oregon 3A Player of the Year and all-state selection. He was instrumental in leading Cascade Christian to three state championships. As a senior in 2023-24, Austin posted impressive stats, averaging 28.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, 3.4 blocks, 3.3 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. In the state final against Westside Christian, he recorded 29 points and 18 rebounds, guiding Cascade Christian to a 78-59 win.
Austin’s journey as an elite player includes stints with Team Why Not, Oakland Soldiers, and Oregon Prospects. He is currently entering his freshman season at Grand Canyon University.
